Special Forces Combat in Vietnam is a book dealing primarily with Army SF units during that war. However, as a current Army aviator I was pleased when I found that the book also contains a plethora of great information about the relationship between the soldiers on the ground and the assets in the air during the war. The book mentions many variants of helicopters, from the use use of H-21’s in the earlier years of the war (1963), and continues thru the evolution of the UH-1B, D and C gunships “frogs”, ending with the Cobra in 1971. In addition the book also contains information about air support between Special Forces units and the Air Force from CAS to emergency resupply missions. With Wades great storytelling there are many hair raising moments. Wade was a Special Forces radio operator and his written description of the dialog between air and ground forces is right on! Highly recommend a must read.
